Job description

Our Client, a medical device company in Galway are hiring an R & D Technician to join their team.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Prototype Development and Testing

  • Prototype Creation: Transform design concepts into physical prototypes using benchtop tools and manufacturing techniques, including 3D printing, vacuum forming, heat sealing, soldering, and sewing.

  • Product Assembly and Testing: Build products for verification and validation testing following detailed work instructions.

  • Component Inspection and Measurement: Perform product inspections, measurements, and incoming inspections on materials and device components to ensure compliance with specifications.

  • Test Method Execution: Define and execute test methods according to test protocols, documenting results to support design verification and validation.

Design Support and Collaboration

  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Assembly (DFA): Contribute to design reviews with a focus on DFM and DFA principles to optimize product designs for manufacturing and assembly.

  • Brainstorming and Ideation: Support R&D teams by actively participating in brainstorming sessions and design reviews, providing hands-on feedback to enhance product designs.

  • Design Documentation: Contribute to the creation and maintenance of design documents, including test reports, component drawings, and technical documentation.

Laboratory Operations and Maintenance

  • Equipment Calibration and Maintenance: Ensure equipment calibration and preventative maintenance schedules are followed to maintain lab functionality and compliance.

  • Safety and Compliance: Uphold safety procedures and regulatory requirements within the R&D lab environment.

  • Inventory Management: Manage inventory of consumables and equipment, ensuring adequate stock levels for ongoing projects.

  • Process Improvement: Review and update procedures as needed to improve efficiency and maintain high standards in lab operations.

Job requirements

  • Educational Background:

    • Minimum of 2 years of medical device production experience OR a degree in Design, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in reading and interpreting 2D component drawings and taking accurate measurements.

    • Hands-on experience with benchtop tools and manufacturing techniques, including 3D printing, vacuum forming, heat sealing, soldering, and sewing.

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.

    • Strong attention to detail with a methodical approach to testing, documentation, and problem-solving.
