This is a senior-level, individual contributor role where you will be responsible for the design, development, and commissioning of advanced machine control systems. You'll work on high-tech automation projects from concept through delivery, with a focus on PLC/HMI programming, motion control, robotics, and system integration.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technical expert in industrial automation who thrives in a hands-on environment and enjoys delivering innovative solutions in regulated, high-performance industries.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design and integrate advanced control system software for automated machinery, including PLCs, HMI, SCADA, Robotics, Motion, and Vision systems.

  • Develop, test, commission, and support control software across the full project lifecycle.

  • Provide technical specifications and support for control system hardware selection.

  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers in a multidisciplinary team setting.

  • Support the creation of validation documentation (URS, FDS, FAT, SAT) in compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Act as a technical expert and mentor, offering guidance to junior controls engineers and sharing best practices.

  • Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and project meetings as a senior engineering representative.

  • Ensure compliance with industry safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Job requirements

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in equipment automation, including control system design and integration.

  • Expert-level programming experience with PLC and HMI platforms, preferably Allen Bradley.

  • Proven track record in the design and delivery of automated machines, including experience with:

  • Robotics (e.g., Fanuc, KUKA, ABB)

  • Motion control systems (servo motors, drives, encoders)

  • Machine vision, pneumatics, and industrial communication protocols

  • Strong understanding of regulated industry documentation and validation standards (GAMP, 21 CFR Part 11, etc.).

  • Proficient in generating technical documentation for both internal and customer-facing use.

  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, project-based environment with tight timelines.

  • Full clean driving licence and willingness to travel (occasional/infrequent).

Key Attributes for Success:

  • Highly organised with strong problem-solving skills and a quality-first mindset.

  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Clear and confident communicator — both written and verbal.

  • Collaborative team player who thrives in cross-functional environments.

  • Passionate about automation, innovation, and delivering reliable, efficient engineering solutions.
